Club Nautique- The Parasailor - on the up and up

parasailor
  • combines safety, easy sailing and performance with a much longer lifespan
  • has quality standards which are normally only found in the aviation industry

Hartmut Schädlich is an ocean-going sailor and seaman with over 25 years of practical experience. The man who already has several Atlantic crossings behind him knows what is important. In a lengthy process in co-operation with the firm ISTEC AG, Hartmut Schädlich has developed a new generation of Parasailor spinnaker, which is now on the market.

The balloon shape of the spinnaker creates a slot effect between the upper and lower parts of the sail. This slot effect intensifies the efficiency and therefore the lift of the wing. The strength of the lift is raised to the power of two with an increase in the speed of the current. This creates a quadrupling of the lift at an increase in speed from 10 to 20 knots. The spi is pulled upwards as a result and in this way the strain is taken off the bow.

As the centre of effort of a yacht is very high up, spinnakers usually have a tendency to push the bow of the yacht into the water via the lever arm of the mast. In order to counteract this, the crew often sit on the pushpit. The wing of the Parasailor counteracts this effect through its lift. The strain on the bow is reduced and the yacht rides more smoothly on the waves. Trials in the Daimler Benz wind tunnel have confirmed this effect.

  • The Parasailor offers
  • greater safety through minimising rolling, rhythmic rolling and yawing
  • a minimising of the risk of broaching
  • greater sailing comfort through balanced steering behaviour of the yacht even at greater speeds
  • an excellent reduction of the effect of squalls
  • easy hoisting and lowering of the Paraspi
  • better performance, as the Parasailor takes the strain off the bow and supports the rig
  • less friction on the hull as a result of a smaller wetted surface
  • less induced resistance of the keel and rudder blade

The Parasailor should be considered by everyone who values good "seamanship"; by everyone who has learnt the value of the co-operation of boat, crew and equipment. Even if the parasailor is not yet allowed according to the rules for regular regatta sport, it will still considerably increase your fun in normal sailing.

Increase in speed together with improved stability and manoeuvrability speak for themselves. Whoever sails with the sheets eased off over the seas, shouldn't do without a parasailor alone on safety grounds. The state of the sea combined with gusting winds frequently lead to even experienced crews losing the spinnaker or the whole rig. By relieving the strain on the supporting parts and with the pressure-relief valve function these dangers are rendered harmless. In cruisers the Parasailor can be used as a very interesting alternative to traditional spinnakers and in the mid-term even replace these.
